Wow, it was cold today! Temperatures dropped to about 18 degrees this morning. I thought I would go ahead and try out my new running gear. My dad got me a face mask, hood type thing for cold weather running for Christmas, so I paired that with the North Face jacket that was recently reviewed, doubled up on running pants and wore a hoody underneath my jacket and set out.
I was warm. I felt great running and got an easy 5 miles in before work this morning. I was a lot colder walking to the bus stop than I was walking around in my running gear, that’s for sure. Obviously when I was going to work I wasn’t wearing 2 pairs of pants and 2 sets of jackets though. So, no excuses for the cold weather! Double up and get out there!
You must love running! Talk about inspiration! Way to get out there and put the mileage in! I put sunscreen on when I ran too. When I go out for my run in the 70 degree weather of Long Beach I’ll think of you wearing a face mask and hood in order to run 5 miles.
Does your face mask help with breathing in the cold air?
Hey Robinson, I had an issue with this at the beginning of the cold season, but that only lasted a couple of runs before I got use to the cold air. The face mask mainly helped to prevent the bite of the cold from numbing and hurting my face. I imagine if I still had cold-air problems, it would help. Sometimes I lower the mask because I’m sweating and the air is noticeably colder.
Thanks, youcanfindmerunning! Wow, 70 degrees in Long Beach huh? Maybe it’s time for me to reconsider my living situation
Its supposed to be 81 here today. I was wondering how come you just don’t purchase a treadmill instead of running in such cold temperatures. Maybe that is the southern Californian in me talking.
Treadmills are BORING. I certainly can’t speak for Jeremy, but I find running on a dreadmill to be close to hell. I have one for use on those days where running outside isn’t possible. But that is almost always due to a child-care issue.
@Jeremy – Thank you for that. Maybe I should try one. Or, maybe we will have enough cold days in a row that I can get used to breathing it!!
Indeed, running on a treadmill is one of the most boring things for me. Also, it’s really easy to quit when I’m on a treadmill. When you run outside, when you’re a few miles out, you have no choice but to run back forcing the whole distance!
